The NIHD board held its annual planning retreat on April 28 - May 1 in person for the first time since 2019. We are grateful to our host, Interface Americas, Inc, who opened their doors and provided a beautiful venue for our board members to use throughout the weekend. Highlights of the weekend include:
A welcome and company overview of Interface by Vice President of Sales - Jim McKeon, and Director of Marketing Strategy and Activation - Erin Jende. They shared Interface’s mission and pledge to reduce our negative impact on the environment, create a climate fit for life, and reverse global warming.
Executive Director Angela Boyle provided an overview of NIHD as an organization, including our mission, vision, and membership statistics. President-Elect Anthony Mistretta shared his vision for NIHD in 2023 and beyond, including the role of nurses in healthcare design. President Kelly Guzman shared NIHD goals and accomplishments for 2022.
The visionary Juliet Rogers shared her thoughts on the state of our healthcare system in a presentation titled Overbuilt & Understaffed: Predictions for the Challenging Future of the Healthcare Industry. She highlighted the lack of collaboration in the current approach. She challenged us to think about how we can find hope in our future, collaborate as leaders on a national level, and be inclusive by making space for everyone. We spent the afternoon brainstorming with the Interface team on trends we see in healthcare design as nurse leaders.
We were fortunate to have Interface Americas, Inc's Manager, Mission Activation - Key Accounts Joey Shea, and Manager, Customer Experience & Events - Stephanie Teta spend the afternoon with us, providing history of the company, a tour of the office, and presentation on sustainability titled The Right Scope for Decarbonizing Healthcare.
On Saturday & Sunday, we spent the day reviewing our strategic plan with a focus on three topics:
Member engagement- prioritizing and identifying opportunities to actively engage our members
Partner engagement- discussion and education about our partners and the categories of partners
NIHD sponsored activities- a review and discussion of the 2022-2023 events and required resources for each event
