The month of May is one of my favorites! It really begins to feel like Spring and professionally, I feel very proud and reinvigorated to be a Nurse. The celebration of the of our profession, no matter what role in nursing you play, is one to be proud of and honor.
As Maya Angelou once stated,
As a nurse we have the opportunity to heal the mind, soul, heart, and body of our patients. They may forget your name but they will never forget how you made them feel.
So very true, and I would like to extend this same philosophy beyond the bedside. We as nurses who study and work on the built environments that patients are cared for in… they may never even know our names, however, we have the opportunity to create the spaces that allow for the healing of our patients mind, soul, heart and body. Care extends beyond the bedside care and we have the fortunate ability to impact how the built environment can support the care continuum.
As the month of May carries on, we continue to celebrate all of our other healthcare workers who contribute patient care and the built environments they support. On behalf of NIHD, thank you to all the nurses, healthcare providers, support services and all of our professional partners who support both the clinical world and the built environment. It takes a village, and we all play an important part.
