Welcome to the new and improved Member Community Forum!

October 30, 2020

We are excited to invite NIHD members into the new and improved Member Community Forum!  I am so honored to have been a part of bringing this exciting new website to our organization.  Our vision was to enhance the member experience, improve the member community forum, garner broader industry interest in NIHD, and showcase our amazing organization for what it is!

Here on the new and improved Member Community Forum, our number one goal was to enhance the experience for members. We made it more robust, easier to use, provided multiple ways to contribute to the topic, and we improved the organization of the information shared.

The Member Community Forum is an unbelievable resource we have for NIHD members. Our members are able to poll and ask our professional colleagues around the world for information, best practices, advice on similar experiences, and any other topic that comes to mind.  The Forum allows members to chat, share files, images and any other form of information that could contribute to the knowledge on the posted topic.

The upgrades we hope you enjoy on the Forum are:

  • Ability to reply directly from your email, posting to the forum in the appropriate channel. This means no more logging in to find the appropriate channel to respond to.

  • More organized presentation of all information collected.

  • Ability to sort each topic by “latest, new and top” responses in each category.

  • Ability to post links, attachments, videos, photos to your reply.

  • Ability to “like” topics and responses similar to social media platforms

  • Ability to create your own “poll” to ask our members questions without having to create a survey monkey.

Please take some time to go through our cataloged topics and replies from our old forum to see how it works, displays and interfaces.  Ask a question, send a poll, and always remember…. The more we respond, the more robust our Forum is!

Thank you,
Anthony Mistretta

As we kick off Nurses Week, NIHD President Kevin Meek remembers back to his days as a Clinical Director and Chief Nursing Officer when he would talk to teams and ask them as we were getting ready to celebrate them during Nurses Week of what they would like to receive. Inevitably, and sadly, there was always one answer that came up: “Anything but pizza!”

In the rapidly evolving world of healthcare design, collaboration between clinicians, design professionals, and industry partners is essential to shaping patient-centered environments that prioritize health, safety, and well-being. The members of the Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design (NIHD) and Certified Healthcare Interior Designers (CHIDs) share a common mission—to inform the design process in ways that enhance patient care, protect staff, and create healing spaces for families.

Completing an activation construction project is the grand finale of months of meticulous planning, coordination, and execution. However, this final phase often faces unexpected issues and delays, causing frustration among stakeholders and increased costs. To ensure a smooth project conclusion, it's essential to adopt strategies that prioritize effective communication, rapid problem-solving, and proactive decision-making.

Elizabeth (Liz) Malosh’s aspiration to become a nurse was ignited during her childhood through her own experiences as a patient. These encounters fostered a desire to assist others and create a supportive environment for children and families receiving care. In her current role as Associate Vice President, Consulting Specialist with Blue Cottage of CannonDesign, she continues to draw on these formative memories and experiences.
