Welcome to the new and improved Member Community Forum!

October 30, 2020

We are excited to invite NIHD members into the new and improved Member Community Forum!  I am so honored to have been a part of bringing this exciting new website to our organization.  Our vision was to enhance the member experience, improve the member community forum, garner broader industry interest in NIHD, and showcase our amazing organization for what it is!

Here on the new and improved Member Community Forum, our number one goal was to enhance the experience for members. We made it more robust, easier to use, provided multiple ways to contribute to the topic, and we improved the organization of the information shared.

The Member Community Forum is an unbelievable resource we have for NIHD members. Our members are able to poll and ask our professional colleagues around the world for information, best practices, advice on similar experiences, and any other topic that comes to mind.  The Forum allows members to chat, share files, images and any other form of information that could contribute to the knowledge on the posted topic.

The upgrades we hope you enjoy on the Forum are:

  • Ability to reply directly from your email, posting to the forum in the appropriate channel. This means no more logging in to find the appropriate channel to respond to.

  • More organized presentation of all information collected.

  • Ability to sort each topic by “latest, new and top” responses in each category.

  • Ability to post links, attachments, videos, photos to your reply.

  • Ability to “like” topics and responses similar to social media platforms

  • Ability to create your own “poll” to ask our members questions without having to create a survey monkey.

Please take some time to go through our cataloged topics and replies from our old forum to see how it works, displays and interfaces.  Ask a question, send a poll, and always remember…. The more we respond, the more robust our Forum is!

Thank you,
Anthony Mistretta

Jan 22, 2026

In healthcare design, we often talk about innovation - new models of care, new technologies, new environments. But innovation without legacy is fragile. In this blog, we invite you to reflect on your own legacy: what you are building, who you are lifting up, and how your work today shapes care tomorrow?

Advocacy Through Vision and Visibility: A Call to the Healthcare Design Community
Jan 9, 2026

This year, the Nursing Institute of Healthcare Design (NIHD) is leaning forward: into advocacy, into visibility, and into our shared responsibility as stewards of the environments where care is delivered, received, and lived. Across healthcare design, we are being called to act not only as experts, but as good neighbors within complex, global ecosystems by bringing energy, intention, and care to the places that shape human flourishing.

Empowered Clinical Support: The Importance of a Knowledge Path to Successful Technology Use.
Dec 11, 2025

Too often, hospitals implement new health IT systems without involving nurses—the primary users—early enough in the process. Engaging nurses from the start turns them into active partners, ensuring the technology aligns with workflows, improves patient care, and avoids costly implementation issues. A nurse-centered roadmap that includes nurses in every phase—planning, design, testing, and post-launch—leads to smarter, more successful technology adoption.

Let’s talk about Leveraging Data and Analytics in Healthcare Facility Planning.
Nov 18, 2025

In today’s complex healthcare environment, data and analytics are essential tools for effective facility planning and design. By leveraging evidence-based models and real-time patient data—such as emergency department volumes and surgical case trends—healthcare leaders can optimize space utilization, improve patient flow, and support staff efficiency. This data-driven approach ensures healthcare environments are adaptable, resilient, and centered on high-quality care delivery.

Late to a Meeting? Ditch the ‘Sorry.’
Nov 6, 2025

When you’re late to a meeting, leading with “I’m sorry” immediately puts you on the defensive, makes the moment about your mistake, and subtly drains your confidence. Instead, a better move is to thank people for their patience or jump straight into value-adding.
